AR and 360

Web AR and 360 walkthroughs
that open in a phone browser

A customer taps a link, points the camera at the floor, and the product is standing in their room at the right size. The walkthroughs work the same way.

Somebody who cannot visit is being asked to judge a sofa or a flat from a photograph. Web AR puts the product in their own room at true scale. A 360 walkthrough lets them walk the space. Both open in a phone browser.

No app, no download and no signup. You send a link, by WhatsApp or from your own website, and it opens. In AR the customer points the camera at their floor and the product appears, at the size it really is, and they can walk around it. In a walkthrough they drag to look and tap the floor to move to that spot.

What web AR is, in plain terms

Augmented reality means the camera shows your room with something added to it that is not there. Web AR means it happens in the browser, with no app to install. The customer taps a link, the phone asks for the camera, and the product stands on their floor at the size it actually is. They can walk around it and look at it from behind.

What it is good for is the question a photograph never answers: does this fit, and is it the size I think it is. A sofa against the wall it would really go on. A machine on the floor of a workshop. A light fitting at the height it will hang. It helps most where the thing is large, expensive, or hard to picture.

What a 360 walkthrough is for

A 360 walkthrough is a set of panoramas joined so that you can move between them. You drag to look around and tap a point on the floor to walk to it. It works on a laptop and on any ordinary phone, with no headset. It suits a space somebody would otherwise fly or drive to see: a villa, a showroom, a venue, a flat that is not built yet.

For a space that does not exist yet, the panoramas are rendered, which is work my studio does anyway. For a space that already exists, they are made from a 360 capture of the rooms. Either way the walkthrough ends up as a page on your own site, which you can send to one person or put behind an enquiry form so you see who looked.

  • Drag to look, tap the floor to move
  • Runs in a phone browser, with no headset
  • Rendered for a space that is not built yet
  • Hosted as a page on your own domain
  • Can sit behind an enquiry form on your own site

What it needs from you, and when to say no

For AR, one product to start with, and whatever you have on it: a drawing, a specification sheet, real measurements, or good photographs from several sides. The model is built by hand from that, so measurements matter more than pictures. I would rather do one product properly and let you see it on your own phone before you commit a whole catalogue.

For a walkthrough, the plan of the space, or the existing 360 capture if there is one. If the space is still being designed, the drawings are enough. The honest limit is this. AR is worth it where the size of the thing is the question. For a small item somebody already understands, a good photograph does the job and I will tell you so.

How AR and 360 work is priced

Both are quoted per product and per space, because the work sits in the modelling. The quote names each product or room, who makes the model, where it is hosted and what the handover includes. There are no figures here, because the same brief can mean a simple shape or a complicated one.

What moves the number: how many products or rooms, how complicated the shapes are, whether you already have measurements and drawings, and whether the viewer goes on your existing site or needs a new page. After the first product, the rest of a catalogue costs less per item, because the viewer and the pipeline are already built.

How it runs

  1. 01

    One product first

I build one product or one room properly, so you can judge it on your own phone before anything else is quoted.

  2. 02

    Model

The 3D team at my studio builds the model by hand from your drawings, measurements and photographs, and you approve it before it goes in.

  3. 03

    Build

I put the viewer on your own site, test it on real phones, and give you a link to use while it is still being changed.

  4. 04

    Handover

The page, the model files and the hosting account are yours, with a note on how the next product gets added.

Questions people ask

How much does web AR cost per product?

It is quoted per product, because the work sits in the modelling. The quote names each product, who builds the model and where it is hosted. What moves it: how complicated the shape is, whether you already have measurements and drawings, and how many products follow the first one.

Does the customer need to download an app?

No. It opens in the browser on their phone. They tap a link, allow the camera, and point the phone at the floor. There is nothing to install and no account to make, which is why this works for a catalogue sent on WhatsApp.

Will it work on an ordinary Android phone?

Most recent Android phones and iPhones will place the product in the room. On an older phone the viewer falls back to a 3D model you can spin with a finger, so nobody gets a blank page. The walkthroughs run on anything with a browser.

Are the 3D models generated by AI?

No. They are built by hand by the 3D team at my studio, Cove Craft Studios, from your drawings and measurements, because the scale has to be right. The site around them, the AR code and the hosting are built with AI.

Can I see it working before I pay for anything?

Yes. There are working demos on the projects page: a product you can place in your own room, and a walkthrough you can move through. Open them on your phone, in your own room, before you send me anything about your own products.

Can a walkthrough show a building that is not built?

Yes. The panoramas are rendered from the drawings, which is work my studio already does. People use it to sell a flat, a villa or a venue while there is still nothing on site to visit.

Where does the viewer live?

On your own domain and hosting. The model files are yours and the page is part of your site, so you can put it behind an enquiry form and see who looked. There is no per-product monthly fee for the parts I build.
