Kolkata
An AI consultant for Kolkata firms
whose work happens somewhere else
My practice is in Mumbai. A Kolkata build runs on calls, WhatsApp and shared links, and I fly across for the audit and for the handover where the work needs me there in person.
I am in Mumbai. No office in Kolkata, no staff there, and no client there I can name. What I bring is a way of building systems that suits a firm whose head office and actual operations are in different places.
That split is the first thing I would look at. A Kolkata office often sits above a plant, a depot, a garden or a site that reports in every evening by phone, by email, or by a message to whoever asked for it. The audit is where I come and sit in the office, read the registers, and work out what the office is really waiting for each evening.
Where I am
Mumbai. I come to Kolkata for the audit and the handover where the project needs it. The design, the build and the testing are remote, on your machine and your accounts.
It collects the day for you
Each site, depot or plant sends what it has, in whatever form it already sends it. The Agent puts the day together in one place and tells you what has not come in.
Decades of records, answerable
Agreements, ledgers, correspondence and registers going back generations. A system that can read them answers questions that currently need the one person who remembers.
Nobody has to learn anything
The Agent sits inside WhatsApp and the files you already keep. A clerk who has worked the same way for thirty years carries on working the same way.
On a machine in your own office
One computer runs the model, so ledgers, agreements and client correspondence stay in the building. There is no monthly software subscription behind it.
The office is in Kolkata and the work is not
A great many Kolkata firms are head offices. The agency is run from here and the goods move through depots in other states. The plant is in Durgapur or Haldia, the garden is in Assam or the Dooars, the site is wherever the contract took it. The office finds out afterwards.
All of that reporting is manual. A manager calls or messages in the evening, somebody in the office types it into a sheet, and by the time the owner asks for a summary it is already behind. An Agent in the same WhatsApp group can collect the day from every site, write one position, and name the site that has not reported. No new app at either end.
This is the build I would start with in Kolkata, before anything more ambitious. Agents for smaller businesses covers what one of these actually does.
Thirty years of files, and three people who know them
The second thing that repeats in Kolkata is tenure. Staff stay for decades and so does the knowledge. Which party is slow but good, what the original agency agreement said, why a particular customer gets that rate. It lives in a few heads and in cupboards of files, and whoever is taking over cannot read it fast enough.
A model on your own machine can read those files and answer from them, naming the document it answered from. That does not replace the person who knows. It means the firm still has the answer after that person retires.
It also has to be built so long-serving staff do not feel inspected. I keep the reporting on the work itself, and the log records what the system did rather than ranking the people who sent it.
What the next generation asks, and what the senior staff ask
The son or daughter back in the business asks whether all of this can finally be in one place, and whether they can ask a question rather than request a report. The answer is yes, and it is a build rather than a purchase.
The senior people ask whether their job is going. The honest answer is in the audit: a list of what to leave exactly as it is, which in an old firm is most of it. What goes is the typing up, the chasing, and the re-entering of numbers that already exist somewhere else. There is more on that in AI for a 40 to 100 person company.

Questions people ask
Do you have an office in Kolkata?
No. I work from Mumbai and travel to Kolkata for the audit and the handover where a project needs it. Everything else runs remotely. I will not claim a presence I do not have, and if you want somebody local who can drop in, say so on the first call.
Our plant and depots are in other states. Does that matter?
It is usually the reason to build something. The Agent collects the evening report from each site in whatever form it already arrives and writes one position for the office. The machine that runs it sits wherever your head office is, and the sites only need WhatsApp.
Can it read our old files and agreements?
Yes, the ones you point it at. Scanned agreements, ledgers, correspondence and registers can be read and answered from, with the document named each time. It reads bad handwriting poorly, and the audit tells you honestly which records are worth putting in and which are not.
Will our long-serving staff have to learn a new system?
No, and that is the test I build to. The Agent works inside WhatsApp and the records you already keep, so a clerk who has done the same thing for decades carries on doing it. In my own studio, eighteen people use systems I built without a training session between them.
How much does an AI consultant cost for a Kolkata firm?
The same as anywhere, and I do not publish rates. The quote follows the audit and lists the machine, the systems, the connections and the handover. Travel appears in the quote where it applies, and it is not the part that moves the number much.
Our office is old and the IT is basic. Is that a problem?
No, because the system does not depend on your network being modern. One machine on your office network holds the model and the records. India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 is why owners now ask where records sit, and I document exactly that for you to show your advisor.
Can we start with one part of the business?
Yes, and I would. One depot or one reporting line first, on your own machine, until it runs through a normal month unattended. You can stop after the audit, the design, the build or the handover, and whatever has been done is yours.
